  CRW_5994.JPG - Early morning, and we're through the locks and cruising through the second gorge, the Wu (Witches) Gorge. Here, we are in the reservoir of the Three Gorges Dam. The dam raised the water level of the Yangtze about 300 feet, so now the gorges, while still stunning, are not as spectacular as they once were. While the dam will generate tremendous power and control flooding, it has been, and continues to be, controversial because of its impact on the environment and antiquities.
